A little story..

About Us

Foundation Coffee Roasters are an independent specialty coffee roaster, coffee equipment supplier and good vibe provider based in St Ives, Cornwall. We are passionate ocean advocates and adventurers who love where we live and are committed to cultivating personal relationships with both our wholesale and retail customers alike.

From the outset our mission has been to create a high grade specialty coffee offering, utilising ethical practices with minimal environmental impacts, to showcase our legendary partners and suppliers and to positively impact the growth of the coffee community both locally and beyond.

Sourcing Ethics

We pride ourselves on transparent and honest business practices, which is most apparent in our responsible sourcing of coffee. Generally, we work within a sustainable, impact-conscious supply chain with traceability down to the individual contributors, seeing exactly where our coffee comes from and nurturing future working relationships with coffee growers and producers alongside our trusted supply partners.

Our aim is to cultivate long lasting relationships at each stage of the supply chain that benefit everyone from the grower to the customer, minimising our environmental impact and contributing to the sustainability of the coffee industry overall.

Community

We believe in making an active contribution to our community both locally and in the wider coffee community. Fostering positive relationships and communicating with other local roasters and coffee lovers, while aiming to make specialty coffee accessible for anyone, steering clear of elitism and snobbery. Enjoy coffee however/wherever/whenever you like.

We wholeheartedly support sustainable growing practices here at Foundation. Our chaff, a coffee byproduct, is used as mulch by a local community orchard, as well as local allotments and growing spaces including our own.

We also encourage the repurposing of our hessian coffee sacks, in an attempt to minimise waste. Contact us if you would like to repurpose any for craft or community projects and check our social media for any upcoming community events.

At foundation we care about people and the planet. We deal directly with our suppliers where possible, and always pay more than the Fair-trade price for our coffee. Doing so means more money for farmers, their families and local communities. Everyone wins.

Responsibility

A large part of being a sustainability-focussed modern business is acknowledging your responsibility to the environment, which is essential to us at Foundation.

Our 250g and 1kg coffee bags and labels are printed with low solvent inks and are completely home compostable. Once used, they will break down into biomass, water and carbon dioxide. Our bags and boxes are designed to be filled. Less wasted space equals more delicious beans for extra tasty brews.

Our local orders are delivered by local drivers with established routes using electric vehicles. This means no single journeys for lightweight deliveries. Any wholesale orders outside of these areas are fulfilled by a courier with regular established routes, utilising their green service where possible to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible.

We are constantly researching and implementing practices to reduce and offset our carbon footprint, with a goal of being a completely carbon neutral company. Further details, updates and general ramblings will be shared in our newsletter. Sign up now!
